Common Questions
-
Chemical peels are customized blends of acids applied to the face or body to treat most skin-related issues, including signs of aging (fine lines, etc), hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun damage, rosacea, acne and scarring. They can also help with improving skin texture and firmness, skin tone, and reduce pore size. Professional chemical peels far outweigh the effect of an exfoliating scrub or brush. Our skin care specialists can determine which peels will best suit your needs
-
Chemical face peels work by removing the outer layer of the skin and stimulating new tissue growth. They target different depths of the skin depending on what you are hoping to achieve from each treatment. Superficial peels primarily target the very top layers of the epidermis (outermost of the three layers of the skin). In contrast, medium-depth peels treat through to the papillary dermis, and deep peels treat the mid-reticular dermis(the lowest layer of the dermis). Your skin consultant will be able to advise on which type of chemical peel will work best for your unique situation.
-
Peel treatments improve skin texture, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne and reduce the appearance of pores.
-
We would advise against having a chemical peel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you would like further clarification make sure to speak to your Doctor.
-
Results usually last a long time, especially when combined with an appropriate skincare regime. Treatments to maintain your results will be scheduled if necessary.
-
Light and medium chemical peels are safe treatments. That said, our aestheticians are highly trained to ensure that the correct peel is used for the right condition, significantly minimizing the result of any reactions. The health and safety of our clients always come first.
-
Immediately after your peel
Skin may appear slightly red and feel tight, similar to a mild sunburn.
Itching or tingling — this is normal and temporary.
After a chemical peel, the skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
Within the first 48-72 hours, you may experience an increase in the shedding of dead skin cells. These will flake away themselves, although you will need to avoid touching and rubbing the treated area.
After 1 Week
Most peeling has resolved, and improvements in tone, texture, and clarity become noticeable.
Continued collagen stimulation means results will keep improving in the weeks ahead.
Recovery time will vary depending on the type of peel you get and your skin’s response to the treatment. Your consultant will be able to advise on how long you can expect the recovery to take post-treatment.
-
Immediately After Your Peel
Skin may appear slightly flushed or feel warm and tight.
Mild sensitivity or dryness is normal. There is minimal down time for this treatment. Gentle flaking or peeling may occur, though many clients experience only subtle shedding.
After 1 Week
Skin looks fresher, smoother, and more refined.
Breakouts may purge slightly as clogged pores clear, which is temporary.
With continued treatments and homecare, post-acne marks begin to fade, and overall clarity improves.
